Benjamin Perry, Jr., “Uncle Ben”, age 83 of Providence, died November 16, 2017 at Roger Williams Medical Center. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Furtado) Perry.

He is the brother of Thelma DiBona and her husband Sam of FL, and the late Regina Pavao. He leaves his 3 nephews; Russell Pavao, Russell DiBona, Steven DiBona , his niece Denise Delavolpe and 7 grandnieces and nephews.

He worked as a dispatcher for Amtak for 37 years. Benjamin was a very serious train enthusiast working throughout the years for different railroads. Benjamin was very involved with model railroads and train shows and belonged to the Bristol S-Gauge Club. He was a wealth of knowledge; knew everything about everything and everyone enjoyed his story telling. He had a notorious sense of dry humor. He was a member of Friends of Kingston Station.

He was known as Uncle Ben to all. He was a legend at Clark’s Trading Post and was on the Wanted Poster. If he was found, the recipient was awarded with a wooden nickel by Uncle Ben.

Benjamin was a man of faith and his life was exemplified by his gentleness, kindness and he touched the hearts of those who knew him. He loved sharing his time with his family and extended ‘railroad’ family.

One of his two favorite expressions were “Does that taste like oatmeal cookies?” and at bedtime he would say to his nieces and nephews, “Happy face in the morning!”
