Barbara A Reed (Allienello) passed away peacefully on July 2nd after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She learned to dance early in life, drawing her to her first husband, the late James Whitehead. Music was a source of joy for her, bringing her much happiness throughout her entire life. And although her career briefly began as a bank teller, she soon decided to devote all her time, love & amazing cooking skills to the attentive care of her children. Barbara’s life’s work was her children & grandchildren. Nothing was more important, and her every sacrifice was for them.

While it was on Pine Rock Farm where her love of farm life developed, it was on Cedar Hills Farm with her husband Thomas C Reed where her love for the farm and everything equine began & was shared. Even throughout a short career as Office Manager for Pella Windows, she found decades of peace caring for her horses. Relocations to farms in Richfield Springs, NY & Sutton, MA had one requirement…a barn for her horses. She was also a longtime member of her churches, the Daughters of Isabella and her horse club in Rehoboth, where God Blessed her with many cherished friendships. Delicious smells from her kitchen and memories of her smile, direct approach and love for family will be remembered by us all, with happiness & laughter.

She was the daughter of the late Michele & Evelyn Allienello, and leaves behind her sister Carol Francis & her companion Bob, her brother Michael V Allienello & his wife Susan, and her sister Patricia Dias & her husband Bob… as well as many nieces & nephews who straighten up a bit & smile when they hear her name.

She leaves behind her husband, love and companion of 33 years, Thomas C Reed of Sutton, MA, his brother Dana & June Reed, as well as her step-sons & families: Thomas & Brenda Reed, Daniel & Ann Reed, and Kenneth & Jean Reed and their beautiful children.

She leaves behind three very heartbroken, but appreciative children, as well as three wonderful grandchildren who feel lucky to have had their Grammy as such a strong influence in their lives: her son James G Whitehead Jr, wife Danielle and children Jack & Lily of Rehoboth, her son Derek Whitehead of Rehoboth, as well as her daughter Tara-Lyn Whitehead & her daughter Hannah of Rehoboth.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Monday, July 9, at 8:45am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Taunton Ave., Seekonk. Burial will follow at the Rehoboth Village Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, 4pm until 7pm in the funeral home.

Flowers are welcome at the funeral home. The family is using Anjulans’ Florist in Rehoboth. Alternatively, her family participates annually in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, so memorial donations are also greatly appreciated at one of these pages…
