Walter Langlois Obituary

Walter R. Langlois, 94, of East Providence, a cherished patriarch, community beacon, and devout parishioner, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol, RI. Born on November 10, 1929, in Attleboro, MA, Walter was a man whose life was defined by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his faith.

The loving husband of the late Eleanor (Andre) Langlois, Walter was the cornerstone of a family that revered him. He was the beloved son of the late Eugene and Emma (Cote) Langlois, a guiding light to his children Lillian Martin of Seekonk, MA, Walter R. Langlois, Jr., of Sandwich, MA, and John Langlois of Barrington. Walter's legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, of whom there are eight, and his six great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his teachings and love.

Walter's sister, Gloria Hague of Pawtucket, along with numerous nieces and nephews, remember him fondly. His life was also touched by the memories of his late siblings, Irene Grenier, Jeanette Maynard, and Phillip Langlois, whom he now joins in peaceful rest.

An exemplary figure in his professional life, Walter dedicated over four decades of expertise as an Electronic Technician at Zenith. His work was not just a job but a testament to his reliability and skill. Walter's commitment to education was exemplified by his earning of an associate degree, which underpinned his successful career.

Faith played a central role in Walter's life. He was a devout parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he lived out his faith and found great solace and community. His involvement in the church was just one aspect of his service to others. Walter also proudly served as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus, embodying their values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War, where he received the Korean Service Medal, and 3 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge.

Walter's dedication to youth and the community was evident in his role as a Former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. His leadership and guidance helped shape the lives of many young men, instilling in them the values of honor, courage, and respect. His zest for life and adventure was infectious, and it was this spirit that led him to coordinate trips to Florida for the East Providence Senior Center's "Senior Rovers," creating joy and lasting memories for many.

Described by those who knew him best as loving, interesting, and faith-filled, Walter's impact on the world was profound. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone around him, and his engaging stories and wise counsel will be dearly missed.

Walter's life was a journey of love, service, and faith—a journey that has now come to a peaceful end. As we reflect on his remarkable life, we are reminded of the enduring lessons he imparted and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of his family, friends, and community. Walter R. Langlois may have departed from this earth, but his spirit and legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
