Maria Cardoso Obituary

Maria Zenaida Cardoso,93, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024, at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI. Born on March 16, 1930, in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the cherished daughter of the late Rui and Olivia (Resendes) Cardoso. Maria, known affectionately to those around her simply as Maria, dedicated her life to the service of others and the values of kindness and compassion.

Maria's early life in the Azores was marked by a strong sense of community and family. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her long-standing career as a midwife in Povoacao, Portugal, where she brought countless new lives into the world and offered comfort and care to many families. Maria's work was not just a job; it was a calling that she fulfilled with grace and dedication.

After years of selfless service, Maria decided to join her family in the United States, settling in East Providence eight years prior to her passing. She quickly became a beloved member of the local community and a devout parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. Maria's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering belief were sources of strength to her family and friends.

Maria is survived by her loving sister, Maria C. Amaral of East Providence, and was predeceased by her brother, Dorvolino Cardoso. She was a devoted aunt to Paula Amaral, Maria Botelho, Delia Ferreira, Jose C. Amaral, Lucia Amaral, Maria Miguel, Gorete Costa, Rui Amaral, Paul Amaral, Noemia Shihadeh, Joe Manuel Cardoso, and the late Claudio Amaral, all of whom will miss her deeply. Maria's extended family, spanning from East Providence to Canada, will cherish her memory and the lessons of kindness she imparted.

Those who knew Maria would describe her as loving, kind, and faith-filled. She approached life with a gentle touch and a warm smile that could light up any room. Her presence was a comfort to those in need, and her actions were a testament to her generous spirit. Maria's kindness was not loud or boastful; it was the quiet, steadfast sort that is remembered long after someone has gone.

Maria's legacy is one of love, service, and faith. She lived her life as an example of how to care for others with a selfless heart. She will be remembered not only for the lives she helped bring into the world but also for the countless lives she touched with her benevolence and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people.
