Maria Sequeira Obituary

Rumford - Maria Ventura (Brazao) Sequeira, affectionately known as Zita to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island. Born on July 14, 1935, in the picturesque town of Santa Cruz- Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, Zita was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her 88 years of life.

Zita was the cherished wife of the late Joao Sequeira and the beloved daughter of the late Albano Mendes Brazao and Maria Ermelinda (De Freitas) Brazao. Her legacy continues through her devoted son, John Sequeira, and his wife, Tamara, of Barrington, and her three adoring grandsons, Roman, Dean, and Jared Sequeira, who brought immense joy and pride to her life.

For over a decade, Zita demonstrated her diligence and attention to detail as a machine press operator at Universal Optical. She later joined Texas Instruments, where she continued to showcase her strong work ethic for more than 15 years until her retirement. Zita's colleagues remember her as a reliable and gentle presence, always willing to lend a helping hand.

A faithful parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, Zita found solace and community within its walls. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her spirit. Beyond her religious devotion, Zita was a woman of many interests. She possessed an exceptional talent for seamstress work, which she pursued with grace and precision. Zita's culinary skills were unparalleled, and her dishes were the centerpiece of many family gatherings. Her garden was a testament to her patience and nurturing nature, brimming with life and color.

Zita's love for travel took her on numerous adventures, yet she was always happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandsons. Her love for them was infinite, and she cherished every moment spent watching them grow and flourish.

Those who knew Zita would describe her as the epitome of loving, kind, and gentle. Her warm smile and compassionate heart touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Zita's unwavering positivity and strength were an inspiration to her family and friends, and her memory will be treasured forever.

As we bid farewell to Maria Ventura (Brazao) Sequeira, we celebrate a life lived with genuine warmth and generosity. Zita's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the countless memories that she leaves behind. Her passing is not an end but a transition to a place of eternal peace and joy, where she will be reunited with her dear husband, Joao, and her parents.

The love and lessons Zita imparted on this world will resonate for generations, a testament to the beautiful life she lived. We honor her memory by embodying the virtues she exemplified so effortlessly—love, kindness, and gentleness—in our daily lives.
