Maria Lima Obituary

East Providence - Maria Conceicao (Cabral) Lima,96, affectionately known to many as Connie, passed away peacefully at Eastgate Nursing Home in East Providence, Rhode Island, on Friday, March 15, 2024. Born on July 11, 1927, in Santa Maria, Azores, Connie was the cherished daughter of the late Joao M. and Maria DaConceicao (Soares) Cabral. She was the beloved wife of the late John Lima, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories for 45 years.

Connie's life was a testament to her loving and kind nature, as well as her deep, faith-filled spirit. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Natalie Laster and her husband Rahja, and a caring sister to Delores Goulart (Jose) of East Providence, Regina Tavares of Seekonk, and Virgilio Cabral (Heidi) of Taunton. She was also the treasured sister of the late Germina Benevides, Idelina Lima, Manuel Cabral, David Cabral, Jose Maria Cabral, Jorge Cabral, Fernando Cabral, and Joao Cabral. Her love extended to her grandchildren Alton Sullivan and his wife Jaime, Tracy Rosado, Risha Laster, Rahja Laster and his wife Domenique, Elizabeth Pereira, Jessica Brunelle, Shyan Laster, Debra Laster, Ashalee Schneider and her husband Michael, and John-Derrick Laster. Connie was also a proud great-grandmother to 14 and great-great-grandmother to 1, embodying the matriarchal spirit that held her family together.

Connie made the significant journey from the Azores to the United States in 1967, initially settling in the Fox Point section of Providence. She found a long-term home in East Providence in 1979, where she became a respected and active member of her community. For over 17 years, Connie dedicated herself to her work in the Housekeeping Services Department and Laundry Department at Rhode Island Hospital before retiring in 1990. Her work ethic and commitment to service were admired by all who knew her.
A parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Connie's involvement in church activities reflected her unwavering faith and her desire to serve others. Her commitment to her faith was evident in the way she lived her life and the example she set for those around her.

Connie's interests reflected her nurturing and creative spirit. She found joy in sewing and crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces that were both practical and sentimental. Travel was another passion of Connie's, as she loved to explore new places and experience different cultures. Her affection for dogs was well-known, as she always had a special place in her heart for her canine companions, especially her Mickey, Estrella, and Milo.

Those who knew Connie will remember her for her loving kindness, her strength of character, and her unwavering faith. She was a beacon of light and warmth in the lives of her family and friends, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly through the love she shared and the memories she created.
Connie is survived by many godchildren, nieces, and nephews, who will miss her dearly. Her life will be celebrated, and her memory honored by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

The world has lost a remarkable woman, but the heavens have gained an angel. Maria Conceicao (Cabral) Lima's journey on earth has ended, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Rest in peace, dear Connie; your love will forever be our guide.
