East Providence -Maria Natalia (Valente) Bento,79, known affectionately as Maria, passed away peacefully at her home in East Providence on November 9, 2023. Born on July 18, 1944, in Villa Franca do Campo, Azores, she was a beloved figure in her community and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
Maria was the devoted wife of the late Jose Bento and the cherished daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Quintanilha) Valente. She was a loving and nurturing mother to Maria Costa and Victor Sousa of East Providence, Jose C. Bento and his wife Elsa of East Providence, Claudio Bento of Pawtucket, and Paul Bento and his wife Lisa of Cranston. Her family also extended to include her brother, Carlos Valente of the Azores, her sister, Virginia Aguiar of Canada, and she was also the sister of the late Jose Valente, and Teresa Quintanilha.
Maria was a woman of deep faith and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she was known for her gentle spirit and loving nature. Maria enjoyed her frequent trips to Portugal, where she was able to connect with her roots and immerse herself in the culture of her homeland.
She was a woman of many interests and talents. Maria had a passion for puzzles, finding joy and relaxation in the challenge they presented. She was also known for her culinary skills, often expressing her love for her family through the delicious meals she prepared. She was a tireless homemaker, always ensuring that her family felt loved and cared for.
Maria was also a doting grandmother of twelve, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved nothing more than spending time with them, nurturing their growth and development with her gentle wisdom and boundless love. Maria was also a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly for her kindness and warmth.
Maria's life was marked by her unwavering faith, her gentle spirit, and her boundless love for her family. She was a beacon of love and light in the lives of those who knew her, and her legacy of love will live on in the hearts and minds of those she leaves behind.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Jose Bento, and her son-in-law, the late Luis Costa. Despite these losses, she remained a pillar of strength and resilience for her family, always offering comfort and support in times of need.
In her passing, Maria leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. Her enduring spirit, gentle nature, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered. Maria Natalia (Valente) Bento was a woman of grace, faith, and love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
