East Providence -Maria Bairos Braga, 78, of Summit Street, East Providence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022 surrounded by her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel A. Braga for 58 years. Daughter of the late Francisco L. Braga and Filomena F. Braga of Santa Maria, Azores Portugal.
Maria was born in Santo Espírito, Santa Maria.She emigrated with her family to the U.S. in 1973. She retired from Saint Francis Xavier Parish, where she served as the cook and domestic coordinator for over 30 years.
She was a loving and caring person devoted to her family and always made time to lend a hand to others. Maria was a member of the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood Mariense organization and Imperatriz in 2008.
She is survived by her loving children, Maria Medina and former husband Michael Medina of Seekonk, Joseph Braga and wife Lynn of Omaha, Nebraska, John Braga and wife Melissa of East Providence. She was a loving Grandmother to Jonathan, Jenna and Julia Medina, Sophia, Sara and Joshua Braga, and Breelyn and Jamison Braga.
She is survived by her sisters Ana Barbosa, Aida Arruda, Juvenalia Amaral, Emilia Faria, and her brothers Antonio Braga, Manuel Braga, Joao Braga, Joseph Braga, Luis Braga, James Braga, Carlos Braga and Francisco Braga. She is predeceased by her twin brother Father Jose Braga and her brother Angelo Braga.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Friday December 2, 2022 from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Saint Francis Xavier Church,81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence, RI.
A Graveside Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside,RI.
In lieu of flowers, Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to: Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter St., East Providence, RI 02914; in benefit of the food pantry or to the Holy Ghost Brotherhood Mariense “HGBM” in benefit of the Scholarship Fund ,846 Broadway, East Providence, RI 02914.
