Maria Zelia (Nunes) Bairos

Portsmouth – Maria Z. (Nunes) Bairos, 86, of Portsmouth, passed away on Friday March 17, 2023.

She was the wife of the late Ernesto Bairos.

Maria was born in Almagreira, Santa Maria, Azores, the daughter of the late Antonio Nunes and Filomena (Batista) Nunes.

She was a self-employed seamstress, and she also worked at a Bridal Shop.

Maria has lived in Portsmouth since 1999 coming from East Providence, she was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church.

She enjoyed knitting, making blankets for her family, she loved her plants and flowers.

Maria also volunteered at the Santa Maria Club.

Mrs. Bairos is survived by her children Agnelo and Maria Bairos of Rehoboth, MA., Nelia Cunha and her late husband Manuel of Portsmouth, Juvenalia Sousa and her late husband Antonio of Santa Maria, Azores, Aida Teodoro and her husband Antonio of East Providence.

She was the grandmother of Karie, Mufalda, Maura, Dario, the late Kevin, Lisana, Melissa, Brandon and Geana.

She was also the great grandmother of 12.

Maria was the sister of the late Jose Batista.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday March 22, 2023, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30am.
