East Providence - Manuel Batalha Tavares, 77, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home in East Providence, RI, on October 26, 2023. Born on January 15, 1946, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Manuel made a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Manuel was the devoted husband of the late Maria De Deus (Santos) Tavares and the cherished son of the late Bonifacio B. Rosalina and Maria (DeJesus) Rosalina. He was the loving father of Nicolau Tavares, Adelaide Tavares, Rui Tavares, Paula Tavares, Pedro Tavares, Marco Tavares, Marcio Tavares, and Gualter Tavares. He was also the proud brother of Georginia Tavares, Andre Bonito, and Augusto Bonito. Manuel's legacy will live on through his many grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Manuel had a long and varied career, working as a construction laborer for many years and also serving as a firefighter in Portugal. His dedication and hard work in these roles were emblematic of his strong character and commitment to serving his community. He was well-respected in his field and leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
In 2017, after many years in Portugal, Manuel moved to East Providence, where he quickly became a beloved member of the community. He had a deep love for music and was particularly skilled at playing the accordion. His joyful performances will be missed by all who had the pleasure of hearing him play. Manuel also enjoyed physical activities such as walking and running, often encouraging others to join him and share in his love for the outdoors.
Manuel's love for life was infectious. He was always ready with a song or a story to lighten the mood, and his laughter was a sound that will be dearly missed. He was a pillar of strength for his family and friends, always there with a comforting word or a helping hand.
In his later years, Manuel's love for his family became even more evident. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always eager to share a story or teach them a new song on the accordion. His love for his family, his kindness, and his vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Manuel Batalha Tavares will be remembered for his strength, his laughter, and his love for life. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know him. While we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to bring joy to all who knew him.
