Providence -Lidia M. (Torres) Costa, a loving and faith-filled woman known for her kindness, passed away peacefully at Miriam Hospital on October 9, 2023. Born on June 27, 1936, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Lidia was a resilient and inspiring soul who dedicated her life to her family and her work.

Lidia was the cherished wife of the late Manuel Paiva Costa and the beloved daughter of the late Manuel Soares Torres and Estrela Maria (Rodrigues) Torres. She was a devoted mother to Lydia Poccia and her husband Robert of Providence, and to her late son, Luis “Louie” Costa. Lidia was a sister to Esmeralda Casidor, Viginia Moniz, Connie Matos, and Estrela Mello, all of East Providence, and the late Manuel Torres. Lidia was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, her love and kindness leaving a lasting imprint on their lives.

A hardworking woman, Lidia spent over 25 years as a machine operator at Davol Inc. She was known for her dedication and diligence, earning the respect of her colleagues. Despite the demands of her job, she always made time for her family, and her home was a warm and welcoming place for all who knew her.

Lidia was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she embodied the teachings of compassion, love, and service in everything she did. Lidia's faith-filled life was a testament to her belief in the power of love and kindness.

In her free time, Lidia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a skilled seamstress, often creating beautiful pieces for her loved ones. Her culinary skills were legendary within her family and community, and she took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family. Lidia's garden was her sanctuary, a place where she could connect with nature and find peace.

Above all, Lidia relished her role as a mother. Her children were her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being. Lidia's love for her family was unconditional, and her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of her cooking.

Lidia M. (Torres) Costa will be remembered as a loving mother, a dedicated worker, a faithful parishioner, and a kind soul. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of the many lives she touched. Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 16,2023 at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
