East Providence - Jose Francisco Vitoria,62, known affectionately by all as Jose, was born on March 9, 1961, in Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Raimundo Calouro and Maria Estrela Correia, and peacefully passed away in his residence in East Providence, RI, on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, whose kindness and friendliness touched the lives of many.
Jose was the cherished husband of Olivia (Cabral) Vitoria. Their love story spanned over 38 years of marriage, filled with shared dreams, laughter, and an enduring bond. Together, they built a beautiful family, which was Jose's pride and joy. He was the devoted father of Marina Neto and her husband John of East Providence, and Connie Vitoria and Derek of East Providence. His love for his family was evident in his every action, and he instilled in his children the same values of love and kindness that he lived by.
Born into a large family, Jose was one of 11 siblings in his native Portugal. Despite the geographical distance, he maintained close ties with his brothers and sisters, cherishing the bond they shared. His family in Portugal was always in his thoughts and prayers, and he often recounted stories of his childhood with them, keeping their memories alive.
One of the roles he cherished most was that of being a grandfather. He was the doting grandfather of Emily Neto, Andrew Sylveira, Aidan Neto, Sofia Gardiner, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his fifth grandchild. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and he loved spending time with them, creating lasting memories.
Jose was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent many years as a plater and factory worker for the Monarch Jewelry Company. His work ethic and dedication were admired by his peers, and he took great pride in his craft. He was a familiar and friendly face in East Providence, having lived there for over 25 years after moving from the Fox Point Section of Providence.
Jose's kindness and friendliness were evident to all who knew him. He had a gift for making people feel welcomed and loved, and his home was always open to friends and family. He was a man of great integrity and warmth, whose love for his family was only matched by the love he had for his friends and community. In his leisure time, Jose enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to share stories of his homeland, his work, and his family. His laughter was infectious, his spirit was indomitable, and his heart was always open. Those who knew Jose were touched by his kindness, his love for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family.
Jose's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and friendship. His memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Olivia; his children, Maria and Connie; his grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Aidan, and Sofia; his siblings in Portugal; and the countless friends and community members whose lives he touched. Although Jose is no longer with us physically, his spirit and the love he shared will continue to inspire and guide us. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him, and his memory will forever be a beacon of love, kindness, and friendship. Jose Francisco Vitoria, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
