Rumford - Jose C. Cordeiro, 95, a loving and kind man who was deeply rooted in his faith, passed away peacefully at his home in Rumford, RI, on October 2, 2023. Born on April 8, 1928, in the beautiful island of Faial, Azores, Portugal, Jose was known for his warm spirit, his love for life, and most importantly, his unwavering commitment to his family.
Jose, fondly known as 'Jose' by everyone who knew him, was the son of the late Jose Quariesma and Maria Cordeiro. He married the love of his life, Barbara A. (Silva) Cordeiro, and their bond of love remained strong for over 60 years. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Maria L. Cordeiro of Clearwater, Florida, Joseph B. Cordeiro and his wife Michelle of Bristol, RI, and Paulo C. Cordeiro and his wife Christine of Pawtucket. Jose was a devoted brother to Wenslaus Quariesma of Lisbon, Portugal, and the late Antonio Quariesma.
Jose was a proud grandfather to Justin, Kayla, Nicholas, Matthew, Nathan, Jordan, and Ryan. His joy was further amplified in his role as a great-grandfather to Camilla, Aspasia, and Callie. Jose also held a special place in his heart for his one nephew and two nieces. His family was his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Jose’s professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and commitment. He worked as a printer for the Amica Insurance Company for over 15 years. His dedication to his work was admired by his colleagues and set a great example for those around him.
He had a zest for life that was infectious. Jose's interests were wide and varied. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. He loved traveling and had a particular fondness for going on cruises. He found joy in simple pleasures such as playing cribbage, going for long walks, and working on puzzles. He had a knack for card games and was often found engrossed in a good book. Jose had a green thumb and took great pride in his grapevines. However, he always maintained that the most important and fulfilling aspect of his life was spending time with his family.
Those who knew Jose were blessed to experience his loving nature. He was a kind soul who was always ready to lend a helping hand. His faith was unwavering, and he lived his life guided by his strong belief system.
Jose C. Cordeiro will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for the love and warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire and guide us. Jose, you will be deeply missed.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday October 10, 2023, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.
