John "Johnny" Merandi

John (Johnny) Merandi, 93, of East Providence, RI died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.  He was the devoted husband of the late Marie (Andreozzi) Merandi to whom he was married for 57 years.

John was the son of the late Pietro and Concetta (Quattrucci) Merandi.  He was predeceased by his sister Helen Pezza and brother William (Billy) Merandi. John is survived by his daughters Gina Caruolo and husband Thomas of East Providence, Carla Hahn and husband Russell of Narragansett and his son John Jr. (Jackie) of East Providence. All of whom, John was especially happy to see their accomplishments and successes. 

He was a general contractor, founder and President of Merandi Brothers, Inc. John remained active in the business after Jackie assumed the day-to-day operations in 1995. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army when he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Korean War. He was especially proud of his Italian heritage and was a long-time member of Sons of Italy Logia 1112 Luce Moderna.  John enjoyed following and watching the Bruins and Patriots and was an avid gardener who grew tomatoes that were envied and enjoyed by many.

John also leaves a large extended family and group of friends and caregivers to whom his family is forever grateful for their companionship and caring. During his short stay at Rhode Island Hospital’s, Jane Brown Unit, he received extraordinary care by the medical, nursing and CNA staff.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Loreto Church, Waterman Avenue, East Providence, RI, with burial to follow with Military Honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
