Providence - Joao M. Soares, 52, a loving and spirited man, passed away unexpectedly at RI Hospital in Providence, RI on Monday, July 31, 2023. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on May 22, 1971, Joao was a man of many passions and talents, touching countless lives with his kindness and charm.
Joao was the cherished son of Joao C. and Maria A. (Mourato) Soares of Providence. He was a devoted husband to Deborah (Cunha) Soares and a proud father to Joao J. Soares. He was also a doting grandfather to Hunter David Soares. Joao was the caring brother of Jorge, Daniel, Stephanie, and Minervina Soares, all of Providence, and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
For over 47 years, Joao was a proud resident of Providence after moving from Portugal. He was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where his faith was steadfast and strong. Joao was a self-employed fish seller, he also sold automobiles, proving his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his craft. A man of many interests, Joao's zest for life was infectious. He had a deep love for fishing, a passion he pursued with joy and enthusiasm. His love for vintage cars was well-known among his friends and family, a testament to his eye for beauty and his appreciation for history. A lover of music, Joao could often be found humming a tune or sharing his favorite songs with those around him.
Joao’s passion for soccer was unmatched. A dedicated fan of the Benfica Soccer Club, he never missed a game and took great joy in following their triumphs and trials. His love for the sport was a constant thread in his life, bringing him much joy and many friendships. Joao was known for his loving nature, always going out of his way to help others. His kindness was a beacon that drew people to him, and it was this trait that will be remembered by all who knew him. Joao's spirited nature made him a joy to be around, his lively and energetic personality lighting up any room he entered.
In his 52 years, Joao lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the world around him. His funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
