East Providence - Grace Elinor (Hazard) Fernandes, 72, affectionately known as Grace, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, at the Eastgate Nursing Home in East Providence. Born on February 9, 1951, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to the late Harold A. and Elinor (Andrews) Hazard, Grace's life was marked by a radiant kindness and an enduring passion for helping others.
Grace was the loving wife of the late Adriano M. Fernandes, with whom she shared many cherished years. Her legacy continues through her devoted children: Peter Teixeira of St. Louis, Missouri, Daniel Audette, Lucinda Avelino, of Providence, and Yolanda Avelino of Fall River. Her spirit is carried on by her siblings, Margaret Gomes of California, Harold A. Hazard, Jr., of East Greenwich, and she joins her late sister Mary Hazard in eternal rest.
As a nurturing grandmother to Chelsea, Victoria, Lyric, and Shania, and a doting great-grandmother to Nevaeh, Grace's love knew no bounds. She was a beloved figure in the lives of her many nieces and nephews who will hold her memory dear.
Grace dedicated many years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Rose Cottage, where her compassion and care touched the lives of countless individuals. Her commitment to her profession was a testament to her loving nature and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
A proud member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, Grace took great pride in her heritage. Her interests extended to traveling the world, which allowed her to embrace diverse cultures and experiences. In her leisure time, Grace found solace and joy in arts and crafts, activities that reflected her creative spirit and her eye for beauty.
Those who knew Grace would describe her as the epitome of love and kindness. Her passion for life was evident in everything she did, and she approached each day with a heart full of gratitude. Grace's warmth and generosity of spirit made her a cherished friend, a beloved family member, and an invaluable member of her community.
Grace's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those she touched, yet her influence will continue to be felt. As we bid her farewell, we celebrated a life lived with immense love and boundless passion. Grace Elinor (Hazard) Fernandes will be deeply missed, but her radiant spirit will forever illuminate the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we honor her memory, we take comfort in knowing that Grace's journey was one filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. Her life's work, the bonds she formed, and the joy she spread will remain as enduring tributes to a life well-lived. Rest in peace, dear Grace; your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved you.
