Francisco " Frank" Laurenco Tavares

Francisco “Frank” L. Tavares (aka Pa), 82 of Rumford passed away peacefully on Sunday June 4, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones.

Frank was the husband and married for over 63 years to the late Eleanor “Ellie in the deli” L. (Milner) Tavares.  He was born in Providence, RI a son of the late Frank and Mary (Simas)Tavares of Fox point.

Mr. Tavares is survived by his children Frank Tavares of East Providence., David Tavares of Seekonk, and Dorette Proulx of Rehoboth.  He was the loving brother of Doris Carrier of Seekonk, and the uncle of Toni Rose of East Providence, and Donna Petit of West Greenwich.

Pa was the grandfather of Luke Tavares, Bree Tavares, Kyle Tavares, Liam Tavares, Frank Tavares Jr, Jessica Tavares, Dennis Tavares, Philip Proulx, and Victoria Proulx.  Pa was also a great grandfather of Addison, Ainslee, Emmy, and Sylas.

Frank resided in Seekonk in his earlier years where he met his sweetheart Ellie.  They later moved to East Providence where they lived for over 60 years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Providence where he became fond of all the members and really enjoyed the bible studies and functions he attended there.  Frank started out his career as a machinist and toolmaker at Brown and Shop, then went to Blackstone Valley Water Treatment.

After retirement from Blackstone Valley Frank continued to work part time for his son David’s landscape company. At Tavares Landscaping Frank took part in the field, plowing, welding, and was always just a phone call away for help, working behind the scenes assisting David.

Frank enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, duck hunting, ham radio, old school music, (Earth Angel was a classic for him and Ellie) and jazz.  He was also a member of the RI Aeromodelersclub in West Greenwich where he enjoyed flying remote control planes while he walked his beloved black lab “Katie Rosebud”.

Pa was an all around handyman, and was always there to give knowledge to those around him, and will be truly missed by many.

from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Rebello Funeral home, 901 Broadway East Providence.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday June 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in The First Baptist Church of East Prov., 1400 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford, RI.
