Providence - Eleanor M. (Macedo) Whitney,90, of Providence, born on September 8, 1932, in Seekonk, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, at Lincolnwood Nursing Center, North Providence. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Eleanor was known for her spirited personality, infectious humor, and deep love for her family.
Eleanor was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Andrews) Macedo. She was the devoted mother of Beth Conti of Providence, and a proud grandmother to Whitney, D.J., Adriana, and Talia. Her joy was further multiplied by her great-granddaughter, Scarlett. Eleanor was also the sister of the late Sonny Macedo, the late Dorothy Millington, and the late Alice Voorhees. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her presence.
Eleanor had a fulfilling career as an Assistant Buyer for the former Outlet Company and also served the Morris Transparent Box Company. Her professional life was marked by her dedication, diligence, and attention to detail, qualities that helped her excel in her roles.
Outside of her professional life, Eleanor was deeply involved in her community. After moving to Providence from North Providence, she was a vigorous volunteer for the Lions Club and served as a Commissioner for the Town of Seekonk Council on Aging. She also worked with Meals on Wheels and held a position as an Activities Director for the Council on Aging.
She was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, while living in Seekonk. Her community involvement was a testament to her caring nature and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Eleanor was a woman of great spirit and determination, often showcasing her stubborn streak. Her lively personality was matched by her love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Cleo. Eleanor's love for her family was deep and unwavering. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Her love, wisdom, and humor will be greatly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of those she left behind.
In remembering Eleanor, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and service to others. Her legacy is not just in the work she accomplished, but in the lives, she touched with her kindness, charm, and grace. Eleanor M. (Macedo) Whitney will forever be remembered as a loving family member, a dedicated worker, a tireless volunteer, and a spirited soul.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 11:00am – 1:00pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence.
