It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend, Eduarda Pereira at the age of 77 at Rhode Island Hospital on Saturday, November 4, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Joao and Idalina Furtado.
She was a woman whose life was marked by unwavering love for her family, a passion for her cultural heritage, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Her journey, from Portugal to the United States, was one of resilience, hard work, and the pursuit of the American dream. Born in Ponta Delgada, Saint Michael Azores. She came to America in 1968 with her late husband Joseph Pereira. In 1975 she became a US citizen.
Eduarda embodied the spirit of family and always had a nurturing presence. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for many years with the Jaffee family. Her dedication to her work extended beyond professional duties, and the children she cared for became like an extended family to her.
Eduarda adored her children, and her heart swelled with pride and joy as she became a grandmother and, later, a great-grandmother. She would often prepare traditional Portuguese meals for everyone to enjoy. She was the matriarch of a close-knit family that cherished every moment spent together, and her laughter and smile were a testament to the happiness she found in their presence.
In addition to her family, Eduarda had a few great loves that brought her immense joy. She was known for her passion for coffee, sweet desserts, knitting, and her many pugs. She also loved watching Telenovelas, American Football, and European Football. Her love for this simple pleasure was shared with those around her, creating a warm and welcoming environment for friends and family.
As we say goodbye to Eduarda, we remember a woman who embodied love, strength, resilience, and an appreciation for the simple joys of life. Her legacy of devotion to family, warm hospitality, and love for her cultural roots will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Eduarda is survived by her loving children John, Donald, and Christine. She will be missed greatly by her daughter-in-law Debbie and son-in-law Chris. Cherished Vavó by grandchildren Jacob, Joseph, Kyle, Rebecca, Jared, and Adam. Adoring great grandmother to Amelia and Joseph Jr. She will be reunited in heaven with her first great grandchild, Adaline.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, her memory will live on through her family, who she cherished above all else. Let us honor her by continuing to cherish our loved ones, savoring the pleasures of life, and celebrating our cultural heritage. In doing so, we keep Eduarda's spirit alive and her memory forever in our hearts.
May she rest in peace, as she is met with love by her late husband Joseph Pereira and all her adoring pugs.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 9:00 AM from the REBELLO Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in her honor at 10:00 AM in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.
