Donald A. Arago, Sr., age 83, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, at his residence in New Smyrna Beach, Florida from complications due to Covid.
Donald was born in Providence, RI on July 31, 1938. He was the son of the late Anthony 0. and Rosalind (Medeiros) Arago.
Donald is survived by his wife of 40 years, Claire Grieco.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by one daughter Elise Gama-Falvo and her husband Anthony of Riverside, RI: his grandson Michael Gama IV. of Fort Myers, Fl; a granddaughter Nicole M. Arago and a great-grandson Christian of Fall River, MA.; His stepchildren Linda Chita and her husband Paul of Uxbridge, MA., and Glenn Grieco of Edgewater, Fl.
He was the father of the late Donald A. Arago Jr., and brother of the late Audrey A. Girard.
He graduated from Hope High School and after graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force.
After being discharged from the USAF he graduated Barber school and owned and operated his own barber shop in East Providence, RI., for many years. He also worked at Wonder Bread while serving as Vice President of the Teamsters Union. He also worked for General Motors and the Town of Bellingham, MA. until his retirement.
Donald was a social and active man. He was deeply involved in youth little league in East Providence, RI and Seekonk, MA, while his son was growing up, fishing, boating, and soccer for the majority of his life, and was inducted into the Fox Point Soccer Hall of Fame. He was a past treasurer for the Holy Ghost Beneficial Brotherhood of RI in East Providence and was an avid Red Sox and boxing fan.
He will always be remembered for being a happy, fun-loving person who loved to laugh and make others laugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 29, 2022, at 10:00am in St. Paul's Catholic Church 48 St. Paul Street, Blackstone MA 01504. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, 261 West Wrentham Road, Cumberland, RI, where Pastor Dr. Robert Clark, will say a few words and close with a prayer.
Military Honors will follow.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.
