It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to the life force that was Barbara A. (Castro) Martin, 80. Known affectionately as "Grammy" to all who crossed her path, she passed away peacefully at her home in Rumford, RI, on August 2, 2023. Born on March 22, 1943, in Taunton, Massachusetts,
As the daughter of Manuel F. and Rose D. (Marciel) Castro, Grammy was the torchbearer of their legacy, a true beacon of light in all our lives. She was the devoted wife of the late James T. Martin, Sr, a love story that began with a dance and lasted over 60 years. There was no better duo than these two, "their love story was like the ones you'd hear about in fairytales.
Grammy was the proud mother of James T. Martin, Jr., of Attleboro, and Penny M. Martin-Trudeau, her devoted caregiver. Grammy was also the grandmother to Joshua T. Trudeau, Khylie J. Trudeau and her partner Bree, and Sascha Roberts and her husband Bryan. She was the sister of the late Castro brothers, Thomas, Robert, William, and George. And let's not forget her loyal dog, Spike, who was always ready for a good belly rub and a laugh.
Grammy's work history was as colorful as her personality. She served up smiles and sundaes as a waitress at Friendly Ice Cream for over 19 years. She was a fixture in the Rumford section of East Providence for over 54 years, and also enjoyed being a "snowbird" in Panam City Beach, Florida. for 7 months each year.
Grammy was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. She loved to read, travel, and go to concerts. She was a regular on the cruise circuit with "the Gang". Her home was a haven for anyone who needed a laugh, a hug, or a home-cooked meal.
Grammy was a woman of many talents, but her greatest gift was her ability to bring comfort to people and welcome you with a warm smile.
In the end, Grammy lived a life filled with laughter and love. Her laughter will echo in our hearts forever, a testament to a life well lived and a woman well loved. So, let's share some M&M's, share a smile and celebrate the life of our beloved Grammy. Her spirit will live on in all of our hearts and every moment we cherish. Here's to you, Grammy.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12,2023 at 12:00 noon in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours on Saturday from 10:00am – 12:00 noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 45 Gay Street, Providence, RI, 02906, would be appreciated.
