Arleene Bowen (1936–2024): A Legacy of Love and Devotion

Arleene Bowen, aged 87, passed away peacefully during the holy weekend in East Greenwich, formerly of East Providence, surrounded by her loving family.

A Family Woman

Born on September 4, 1936, Arleene was the cherished wife of the late John J. Bowen, sharing 34 years of marriage.  She was the daughter of the late John and Hortense (Amaral) Foster. Arleene leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that touched the lives of many.

Arleene’s four daughters—Beth, Lisa, Gail, and Kara—were her pride and joy. She dedicated herself to their upbringing, always putting family first. Her brother, Walter Foster, and his wife Susan were part of her close-knit circle. Arleene held a special place in her heart for her late sisters, Delores Flynn and Ruth Prosper.

A Godmother’s Love

Arleene adored her nieces and nephews, treating them as her own. She was godmother to six of them, including Sharon Ledo, John Flynn, Susan Bowen, Melissa Bowen, Sara Foster Nye, and the late Donna Flynn Winchester.

Faith and Community

A devoted Catholic, Arleene trusted in God’s guidance throughout her life. She actively participated in St. Gregory The Great Church in Warwick and held honorary membership at Sts. John and Paul Parish in Coventry. Her commitment extended to the Coalition committee at St. Gregory The Great Church, where she served her spiritual community.

Adventures and Warmth

Arleene loved travel, exploring much of the United States and spending time abroad, especially in Italy and Portugal. At home, she immersed herself in gardening, yard work, and hosting many barbecues. Her warmth and grace drew people to her, and she encouraged others to be their best.

Arleene’s career included service as the Director of the Eastbay Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
