Obituary

Armando Simonelli “Uncle Mondo” age 101 of East Providence and Bristol, died December 27, 2018. Born in Barrington, he was a son of the late Antonio and Teresina (Masucci) Simonelli.

He proudly served our country in the Army as a technician fourth grade battery A 12th field artillery observation battalion and was honorably discharged January 6, 1946. He worked as a machinist at Okonite, retiring in 1979.

He is survived by his nieces, Cindy Arago, Marion Cox, Nephews Bob Spencer, Steve Spencer, Geof Spencer as well as great nieces and nephews and their families. Armando was predeceased by his siblings; Mario Simonelli, Ann Aragao, Theresa Spencer and Beatrice Simonelli.

Mondo was “Uncle” to everyone who knew him. He was an avid reader of the Providence Journal, and waited every morning for its arrival, reading cover to cover. He was a wonderful storyteller and had a memory like a steel trap. Anyone lucky to be in his company was amazed by this simple and humble man. He will be sorely missed.

Special thanks to Elderwood at Riverside, Hope Hospice and Palliative Care for their help, all the “younger” friends who supported him and entertained him all these years, and to Bill Benoit, who “connected” with Uncle Mondo and provided “chauffeur services”. Bless you all and may you have the same journey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Services on Monday at 12 noon at the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence. Burial will be private at the Maria Del Campo Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hope Hospice, 1085 N. Main St. Providence, RI 02904.
