SEEKONK – Warren E. Macdonald, 86, of Cumberland formerly of Seekonk, died peacefully Saturday night, Oct. 6, 2012 at Trinity Healthcare Center after a long and hard fought battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Waters).

Born July 3, 1926, in North Providence, he was son of the late Walter and Mae (Jarvie) Macdonald.

Mr. Macdonald, known to friends and family as "Mac", was a graduate of North Providence High School, Class of 1944 and graduated from Brown University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After living in Barrington for 14 years he and his wife moved to Seekonk where they lived for 45 years. He was active in the community, coaching baseball, volunteering as a Boy Scout leader and as a member of the Seekonk Planning Board. He was a devoted spouse, and a loving father, father-in-law, uncle and grandfather. He was a generous man, always willing to give a helping hand to a friend or a neighbor. His favorite pastimes were reading, playing pool and playing golf, where he was known to play 27 holes in an afternoon.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, he leaves his children, Stephen Macdonald of Benton Harbor, MI, Jeanne Velardo and her husband Joseph, of Seekonk, Capt. Jeffrey A. Macdonald, USN, and his wife Dianne of Woodbridge, VA, Kyle Macdonald and her husband, David Johnson, of Providence, and Gregg Macdonald and his wife Elizabeth of Oxnard, CA; and his grandchildren, Cailyn Pawlowski, Connor and Kelsey Macdonald, Lindsey, Ryan and Julie Macdonald, Natalie and Timothy Macdonald, Christopher Rose and Nicholas Parra-Vasquez.

Mr. Macdonald was also the grandfather of the late Nicholas Velardo and brother of the late Howard and Doris Macdonald.

Relatives and friend are invited to attend a celebration of his life Saturday at 11:30 am in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. Burial will follow at Seekonk Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday 10:30am to 11:30am prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
