It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Morneau of both Pawtucket, RI and Falmouth, MA on February 10, 2018. After a prolonged and intense battle with cancer, Dick finally succumbed with dignity while surrounded by loving members of his family at the age of 68.

Born in Springfield, MA on February 19, 1949, Richard went on to attend both Babson College and Suffolk Law. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1969-1975. In his lifetime, from time to time, he was a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Pawtucket Bar Association. He was a proud member of the American Sons of Italy, Renaissance - Alliance Lodge 1966 and of course Trout Unlimited.

Richard’s relationship with longtime friend and partner John B. Murphy began at a Providence law firm in 1974. Together with John A. Murphy, they commenced the partnership of Morneau & Murphy in 1992 with offices in both Providence and Jamestown.

Throughout his lifetime, Richard was an avid small boat sailor and once sailed 1700 miles non-stop on the open sea from Tortola to Block Island. He remained an active fly fisherman until his passing and was even able to cast a few from his Hospice bed. Fishing always had a way of calming him down, even if the fish weren’t biting.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Janice A. Morneau from Pawtucket, RI, his son Geoffrey R. Morneau and daughter-in-law Kim A. Morneau of Providence, RI, his daughter Lindsay K. Sauvageau and son-in-law Kevin Sauvageau. He is also survived by his grandson and best friend Wesley J. Morneau of Providence, RI. Wesley and his Pop shared a very special bond.

Richard also leaves behind sister Margaret Ravanesi of Duxbury, MA and her family as well as Charles Morneau from Lincoln, MA and his family.

There will be calling hours on Friday February 16, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Rebello Funeral Home located at 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI 02914. The Memorial Celebration will take place the following day on February 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Friends Meeting House at 99 Morris Avenue, Providence, RI 02906.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff at the Rhode Island Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. Their humanity, compassion, empathy and care has taught us that no one fights alone.
