Edmond Alvares, 88, of Bateman Court, Cranston, passed away with his family at his side, at the Cedar Crest Nursing Center, on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Constance (Velletri) Alvares.

Born Jan. 18, 1929, in East Providence, he was a son of the late Manuel and Elizabeth (Parquette) Alvares.

Mr. Alvares was a WWII Army veteran. He was retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service, was a master plumber and also worked as a starter at the Quonset Golf Course.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves his children, Edmond Alvares and his wife Jeanine of Smithfield, Christopher Alvares of South Kingstown, and Leslie Pitocchelli and her husband William of Coventry; 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Billy, Alicia, Gregory, Gianna, Kristina and Austin; and 5 great grandchildren, Jake, Anthony, Ava, Jordan and Rylee.

He was also the brother of the late Elsie Neal and Frank Alvares.

His funeral will begin Tuesday, August 8, at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Francis Xavier Church, No. Carpenter St., East Providence. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, 4pm until 7pm.
